Program Overview
The Pilates Reformer Teacher Training at Hummingbird and the Horse is a comprehensive professional program designed for movement practitioners who wish to teach Reformer Pilates with clarity, confidence, and integrity. This training blends classical foundations with thoughtful contemporary application, emphasizing intelligent sequencing, teaching methodology, and embodied understanding.
Instruction is led by Master Trainer: Shona Maggio, founder of Hummingbird and the Horse, with over 20 years of experience teaching Pilates and movement internationally.
This program is PMA-recognized and prepares trainees for professional teaching environments, further certification pathways, and meaningful careers in Pilates instruction.

Attendance & Participation Requirements
This is a professional-level training and requires consistent participation.

Students must attend at least 80% of training hours in person
-
Up to 20% of coursework may be completed asynchronously in cases of illness or family emergency
-
Asynchronous completion requires prior approval from the instructor

Full participation in lectures, studio sessions, and practice teaching is required
Failure to meet attendance requirements may result in delayed or withheld certification.
Student Responsibilities

Complete assigned coursework, practice teaching, and apprenticeship hours

Maintain professionalism, respect, and care for the studio, equipment, instructors, and fellow trainees

Certification
Upon successful completion of all required hours, coursework, and assessments, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from Hummingbird and the Horse. This program provides PMA-recognized hours and supports graduates in pursuing further certification or professional teaching opportunities.
About the Instructor
Shona Maggio is the founder of Hummingbird and the Horse and a movement educator with over two decades of experience. Her teaching honors the classical roots of Pilates while integrating contemporary understanding, creative expression, and adaptability for diverse bodies and populations. Shona has taught internationally and is known for her depth, clarity, and grounded, human approach to teaching movement.
